Tomar

Tomar is the city of the Templars, unique in its architectural, artistic and cultural richness. We will discover the castle, the monumental Convent of Christ, the downtown, the Synagogue and the High Chapel during the morning.

We will try to have lunch as soon as possible and then head for Fatima. You will have the opportunity for about an hour to visit the whole area, some peculiar stores around the enclosure and then we continue to Batalha.

The monastery of Batalha brings together some very curious and unmissable aspects: its almost crystalline and mineral form, characteristic of late Gothic buildings, is the result of the wise management of one of the greatest architectural designers that Portugal has known and that has spanned several generations, from its master founder, Afonso Domingues (1388-1402), through Huguet (1402-1438), and culminating in the whimsical “Manueline style” of Mateus Fernandes (early 16th century). There is more to discover in this interesting monastery that took about 200 years to be… unfinished!
What is also unfinished is our trip if we do not pass through Alcobaça!

The Monastery of Alcobaça is the first fully Gothic building erected on Portuguese soil, and its construction was started in 1178 by the monks of the Order of Cistercians… There is much more to discover in Alcobaça including the history of the town itself.

We hope you enjoyed your trip with us.

hello.
